What's For Dinner Tonight? - Sarah Jean Edition

Those of you who know me, know that I LOVE to cook and bake. Well, I've decided to start putting some "Tasty bites" on here every once in a while. Last weekend I thought I'd make a fancy dinner, just for fun. I mean why not right?

The Menu:
Steak with Gorgonzola Cheese

Twice Baked Potatoes
Roasted Green Beans

And Dessert: Crescent Bread Pudding

It was all super easy to do and was "Be-wishes" as Seth would say (delicious ... if you weren't dropping what I was throwing down there!)

While we were eating dinner, this conversation went down:
me: "How's your dinner?"
Nick: "Great!"
me: "Well, I just wanted to make a special dinner ... because I have some special news ..."
Nick: eyes wide opened and deer in the headlight look, "WHAT SPECIAL NEWS?"
me: pause, "JUST KIDDING!"

I'm so mean, but it just came out of my mouth totally unplanned and I had to do it. Nick is always pulling pranks on me, so it was pay back. I'm pretty sure his heart actually stopped for a second there! LOL

Anyway, I've been cooking a LOT lately and trying to a "good wife" and have dinner ready when Nick gets home. There's something about living in a house, that's really making me feel like a mom, mom. Yes, I hate to admit it ... but I've been baking new things and trying lot of recipes lately and it's been really fun.

Lately ... and some Drama

So, We've been a little boring lately! Nothing too picture worthy in the last week or so. We've been just doing our regular thing here in Toledo. Seth and Nick have been playing Mario Soccer together on the Wii (or something like that)

Seth loves to play and surprisingly he loves to watch Nick play alone just as much! Anyway, it cracks me up when I see this:

Me and Seth went to the zoo this week. We are officially Zoo members and we decided to check it out again. The day we went was supposed to rain in the afternoon. So, Seth and I headed in the morning and were the first ones in the door! Because of the rain, there was pretty much nobody else there!!! It was a perfect morning for the zoo.

The first thing we saw was these seals and Sea Lion. Seth was in love with them. He kept talking to them, "hey little fella, it's me Seth!" haha

We seriously stayed in there all by ourselves for about 20 minutes watching them, before Seth was ready to find more animals.

We walked past this Lion and Seth wanted to take a picture with the "daddy"

Apparently, this is going to be a zoo crowd-pleaser for us every time! Seth thinks these little masks and hanging things are about as fun as life gets ... oh, the days!

My personal favorite, the "tall neck giraffe" as Seth calls them!

The "Big kitty, kitty"

Look how huge these Hippos are! They were cracking me up. They were asleep in the water with their noses propped out of the water to breathe ... I dunno? It was cracking me up!

Most of the monkeys were sleeping which was pretty lame. But, Seth thought this monkey scale was great! He is the size of a baby Orangutan.

We had a fun trip to the zoo and I'm sure we'll be back again soon!

Okay, now for the Drama!

I almost can't even put this, but many of you have already heard the story so what they heck right? So, we were at playgroup and were just playing at the park when I saw Seth fall. I was over to get him about 2 seconds after he fell and there was the hugest goose egg I've ever seen, throbbing on his head! I seriously almost threw up when I looked at it.

I was a good calm mother at first and then my adrenalin mixed with my mom-emotions and I lost it. I was a little hysterical. Seth was fine. Thankfully there was a fellow mom Dr. there and she assured me that she thought he was alright.

A few minutes later, I decided it was time to go home before I started really freaking out and embarrassing myself more than necessary. I felt like a terrible mom and was crying on the way home. Poor Seth was in the back seat saying, "I'm so sorry mommy, I'm sorry!" I was to emotional and had to get it all out.

This picture was taken in the evening of the day it happened. It's hard to get a good shot, but you can definitely see it. When it first happened it was a lot bigger, redder and I swear I could see it pulsating. (There are other mom's that can back me up on the gruesomeness of it right after it happened!)

Poor guy was more worried about leaving the playground than anything else at the time. He's a tough dude.

Another Dr. from church came over after got home to put my mind at ease. He said the same thing, that he'd be fine, just give him some Tylenol and keep an eye on him. (the rest of this story is too embarrassing ... lets just say those of you who know me well, know what happens when the get thinking about medical mumbo-jumbo!)

Anyway, when Seth woke up from his nap I asked to look at his head and check it out. Seth said to me, "Dr. said it Okay, mommy!" His tone was hysterical. Like he was trying to tell me, stop freaking out, I'm fine!!! I can't wait till he's a teenager!

Anyway, we both survived the drama. It was clearly worse on my and I was way more effected by the incident than Seth. However, it was my first real scare with him where thinking, "Should I take him to see a Dr. right away?" actually came into my head!

Anyway, please tell me I'm not the other mother of a boy who gets hurt like this every once in a while!

Finally .... My Friends are back!

Okay, Let it be known that I LOVE TV! I am so excited that this week starts up with new shows again. Last year I showed you some of the shows that I was excited for. Just for fun I thought I'd give you a taste of what I'm looking forward to this year. Yes, there are quite a few! But, I can't tell you how much I love being able to put Seth to bed and enjoy one of my DVR recordings of one of these great shows:

NCIS: LOVE IT LOVE IT
Seriously, if you like cop shows and you haven't watched this, you are totally missing out. All the drama of law and order with humor, hotties, and lovable characters thrown in there too
(can't go wrong)
Tuesday Night on CBS

The Mentalist:

Another "cop" show, but less gore and grossness. Makes you think and laugh all at once ... also a good story line with the main character involving a serial killer, keeps you watching to see what going to happen.
CBS Thursdays
30 Rock

If you don't watch this show ... are you hiding underneath a rock? So funny! The quick pop-culture humor and hilarious characters make this a guaranteed stomach cruncher every week. Not to mention Matt Damon coming back for the first few episodes. His character is hilarious! Watch it a few times to figure it out and you'll be hooked!
NBC Thursdays

Modern Family:

Obviously, after sweeping the Emmy's a few weeks ago, this show is a keeper! Started last season and I can't wait to see more of this crazy messed up normal family. The main couple with kids are so hilarious you'll be laughing every time you see their faces. Jump on the bandwagon and check out this hilarious bunch!

ABC Wednesdays

Castle:

Another Cop-ish show, but more light hearted. It about a crime novelist that's working with the police to get ideas. Pop-culture jokes and a crush between the head detective and Novelist makes this show original and one you shouldn't miss. Check it out if you haven't and you'll be hooked.
ABC Mondays

Parenthood:

This show began last season and was an instant success! It's got all the charm of Gilmore Girls with a good variety of drama and romance thrown in. The characters are so lovable you just feel like you are part of the family. The first episode aired last week, but you can still catch it online.

NBC Tuesdays

Glee:

Okay, at first I was a skeptic, but I don't really know why? This show will have you laughing, crying, and SINGING along too! It's a great underdog cheering show and highlights the awkward teenage drama we all went through. The pop songs that they rearrange will be stuck in your head, or in my case covering my playlists! Can't miss it.

Fox: Tuesdays

How I Met Your Mother:

If anyone knows me well, I've probably talked about this show. It's one of my absolute favorites. The characters are all funny in different ways and their interactions are hysterical. This season is promised to give us some insight on some of the friends backgrounds, so it's sure to be another funny funny season. If you've never seen it, watch it a few times. Once you get the dynamic you'll be back every week!

CBS Mondays

Yes, I do watch all of these shows every week. And if I'm being honest I watch even more than this. These are just the ones I can't miss and can't wait to start up again. While I'm home at night hanging out alone, it's nice to have my TV friends to watch and unwind with before I head to bed.

What are you watching this season?

Put-In-Bay

Our friends, Katie and Chris, came up with a great plan to head out to this Island on Lake Eerie for the day on Saturday. Put-In-Bay is a little town we decided was like the Cancun of Ohio! There are a lot of bars and touristy things to do and it was a such a fun day.

We were all excited about the little 20 minute boat ride over to the island. We raced for a seat on the outside near the side so we could see the water and such. Well about 5 minutes into the ride we were drenched and stumbling to get to the inside of the boat. It was hilarious and we looked like a bunch of wet dogs (at least I did).

The day was salvaged with some fun activities. Seth was seriously an angel all day. He never really got upset about anything and was such a good sport going along with whatever we were doing!

We visited a little candy shop and museum (if you can call it that)

Played a little mini golf ...

Rented a golf cart and toured around the island checking out all the great landscapes and scenery. Here's Katie showing off her jumping skills!
On our golf cart adventure we found the cutest little sunflower field and Katie and I sort of had a hey day taking a million pictures! (more to come below)

The wind was pretty crazy ... but it was such a fun day despite the weather trying to be a downer!

Seth got to ride a cute Merry-go-Round and LOVED it! He was a little hesitant at first, but then was all about it ... giddy up!

Okay so Katie is one of those friends you have that is so creative and does a million things you wish you had thought to do! Anyway, she is an amazing photographer and I just love her style of picture taking. She took these pictures and I am in LOVE.

Check out her blog and photography website. If you live in Ohio you totally need to give this girl a call for your Christmas card pictures. She is the bomb.com (While you're at it check out her latest and greatest idea here ... such cute things!)

This one of Seth is one of my favorites ... soooo adorable!

check out the face in this one ...

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. We don't look the greatest! We weren't really planning on the photo shoot .... so this is what she had to work with!

Anyway, such a fun day. Great to "Get away" and hang out with some great friends! If you live in the area head out there for the day ... it's so much fun!

Toledo Zoo: Round 1

Well, we're officially members of the Toledo Zoo. Seth loves to see the animals and it's so close to us that we thought why not? So, we'll be heading there a lot to check out all the fun things there.

We took our first trip there with some friends from church. We had a lot of fun. However, it was so hot out that we ended up doing a lot of the indoor things and playing in the kid areas so we didn't get a chance to see too many animals. So, we'll be back many more times to check it out.

I was so impressed with all the toddler friendly play areas the zoo had. A lot of times things are designed for older kids, so this was great.

Here is Seth being an elephant ... he thought it was pretty funny.

This was his favorite .... hanging on the bird and flying!

Finally, a butterfly!

I didn't take many pictures, but we had a fun time and we'll be heading there again soon .. probably in the next few days!
